God need and want those who are qualified into his field, and for that reason if one finds him/herself not being qualified such a person must have to hunger and test for the qualities/qualifications that makes one to be qualified for the work for God is still in the business of reconciliation and sanctification.

In fact the most dangerous thing can happen to any preacher is to be an unconverted preacher in the ministry.

When we talk of qualification of a preacher, we will first of all ask ourselves “what is preaching? According to Beacher, preaching is – a truth through personality.” It is God expressing Himself to others through human personality. Let us examine the qualifications a man must have to possess before he becomes a preacher. 1. A preacher must be born again:

this simply means that one must have the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ as one’s personal Lord and Savior before one can become a preacher. You cannot be a good preacher or a preacher without experiencing a new birth.

Jesus told Necodemus in the book of John 3:3, “Verily, verily, I say unto you except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” The none born again ministers, preaching is just a mere or ordinary carrier to them.

It is to them as some of all these ordinary professional classroom carriers, such carriers as Medicine, Law, Accountancy, Teaching, Business, Army, Navy or any of the civil services etc.

If you will trace it these men are theologically educated, ordained, qualified for holy communion, founder of many churches with the name Ministers. Somebody like John Wesley the 1735 missionary whom when he fail woefully in the field as a result of not being converted, as he was returning from mission colony of Georgia wrote in his journal,

“I went to America to convert the Indians, but oh, who shall convert me?” history recorded that John Wesley is gifted to faith messages or sermon and so he was encouraged by a Moravian, Peter Bohler to continue with “Faith” message hence he is gifted to it. That as he continue to do so that one day he will be filled. Fortunately to him as he was just listening to the reading of Luther’s preface to the Epistle to the Romans at Aldersgate his life was renewed by the Holy spirit.

What do we say about Rev. William Haslam whose story was been told by John Stott, how he was ordained into the church of England ministry 1842. the story was told that this minister continued being not converted till mine good years, and his case was also known by many of his members who equally gave themselves into prayer on his behave.

History recorded he was converted through his own self message as he was preaching on the Topic that says, “what think ye of Christ?” as the light of God busted into his eyes. It is after the new birth that John Wesley who was a failure became the instrument he was in the Great Awakening of the said period. Same with Rev. William Haslam.

In fact it is a dangerous thing to be a preacher without a new birth. 2. He must love the Lord Jesus:

the love of Christ to His Father is every good example to any preacher. It is the Love Christ had for His father that made Him to gave His life voluntarily in subjection to His will and word. This Agape love or sincere love to His father led Him to suffer what he suffered at Gethsemane.

There Jesus prayed to His Father: “Not my will, but thine be done.” It is the love that made Him to gave His life wholly for us all at Golgotha where our iniquity was laid on Him. It is only this love that made Him keep all the command of the father. (John 14:31).

So for a preacher to be a good one, one must love our Lord Jesus Christ by being obedient to the word of God. A preacher must be Holy for Holiness is the attribute of God.

Conclusion The qualities of a preacher should not be over emphasized for the church and the world of this 21st century is looking for and waiting for a Preacher/Christian who is rooted in character. Like Joseph of the Bible.

Who is a man of Prayer, who has an understanding of what God is saying to His people like Daniel of the Bible. Like Solomon of the old, a preacher must be given to counsel and studying the word of God as Paul will tell Timothy, “Study to show yourself approved, a work man that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
